diary of a UK grinder

I started out playing 2/4 nl 6 max cash as an experiment at the beginning of this year. The main goal was to improve my post flop skills which would give me a decent foundation to play deep stacked live mtts. I had a really good run in mtts during the last quarter 2007, hitting 68k in the sunday warm up on pokerstars and 4th in the ipoker 1 million guaranteed, so i figured id play cash, and if i didnt lose too much it would be a worthwhile experience and hopefully improve my game.

Fortunately, i have not experienced a losing month yet, i spent the first couple months purely at 2/4, 4-tabling. My original plan was not to step until i had plenty of experience, but in march i decided to take a peep at 2/4 and 5/10.

This has gone better than i expected and what started out as an experiment has overtaken other forms of poker as it is far more lucrative and enjoyable than grinding sngs, and lower stakes mtts. Not to mention the freedom and improved quality of life. I can't believe i didnt try it earlier. Maybe it will all go wrong but for now it suits me just fine.

So my current schedule is to play 40k hands a month cash poker, and sunday majors mtts, 0 sngs, and try to learn a little PLO. Obviously i will re -assess on an ongoing basis.

I have set myself a goal for the remainder of the year, and it is to final table a gukpt event, i think there are 4 left, and to hit 200k cash earnings. I am currently at $98150 to june 1st

january 2008 . playing exclusively 2/4

feb 2008. just 2/4 6 max again

march 2008. 3/6 and a little 5/10

April 2008. pretty much stayed at 3/6 and 5/10

May 2008. Graphed only 23 days, i lost my entire database. The 7 missing days i was up $6293

One thing i have noticed is that for some reason each month i seen to start off really badly and recover towards the end of the month, so ill have to keep an eye on that
