and compared to 2008......
Comparisions.
100k (33%) less bottom line profit than in 08, which i kinda expected due to the way the games are going, from almost double the amount of hands. That basically means my winrate has been more than halfed. When i looked at these accounts side by side, my immediate thoughts were fxxk!!!, how much longer will i be able to beat these games, and at this rate of decline id give myself another 2-3 years, but im not going to poast my year end stats with totals of 260 fat ones in the green and then go on to whinge. That would be ungrateful and detached from reality, when im trying to keep a sense of perspective. So its an amazing result and im chuffed to bits with it to be honest.
2009 Mistakes
With hindsight i started off the year playing too low, mainly 2/4 and 1/2. I did this as i lost 30k in december 07 and lost my bottle basically. I was afraid of going busto so i dropped stakes for too long, and playing nothing but full ring for nearly 8 weeks. This set me back and probably was too conservative. I also played too much cap games, which hurt my winrate bigtime, im a better 100bb player
On a personal note, i spent nearly everything i made on stupid reckless control of these winnings. Holidays, bad stock market decisions, fast cars and just blowing it uneccesarily. There literally wasnt a week go by without me shelling out a couple of grand on something daft
Did i hit the goals set in jan last year?
A big fat NO, but by writing them down here i did better than i would of otherwise.
1) Learn PLO
Epic fail /. I didnt put any effort into this, which pisses me off, i didnt learn it or play it. When i did play it i got roasted
2) Play 1 million hands
Success!! 1.08million
I set this goal to compensate for any shortfall in expected winrate.
3 ) Lose a stone in weight
Fail . i was 14st2 pounds, i got as low as 13/6, now im at 13/11.
I lost 5 pounds though and if i didnt set the goal here i probably be at 15 stone now. So this is a fail but not a complete fail
4) Play hu
fail, but tableratings has killed off hu so i didnt attempt this task
Goals for 2010
learn plo (again!!)
seriously, NL is losing value by the hour, i have to keep moving and developing to keep profitable. PLo is it. I need to develop my skills here ready to make the switch. So, play at least 1 hour of plo per day, 3 days a week. Post monthly plo graph to make me do this!
Playing nothing less than 3/6
I got the roll to play 25/50, so theres no excuses for being gay at 2/4 anymore, regardless of if i hit a downswing. This is a big move for me, i played 300k hands of 2/4 last year, but i got over 280k in online accounts so there absolutely no reason to be so fxxking nitty. I think i need to do this to improve my bottom line $$$. If i hit back to back losing months then this is the only acceptable reason to drop back to 2/4
So im too nitty with my roll, and with that in mind the next one is going to be tough but
Introduce a rampaging bankroll strategy
Im not hard wired to do this, but if im going to hit really good money next year i need to employ a kind of "rampaging" strategy. It time to start spinning some money up. So if i hit 20k at any point in any month then im going to drop 3/6 entirely and play some 10/20 and 25/50. if i drop 5k back to 15k, then revert back to 3/6 and 5/10. Profitablity wise, the year is going to revolve around how well the shots go. I can accept a poor financial year in advance knowing this.
lose half a stone
from 13/11 to 13/4
Play 1.2 million hands
which is 5% more than last year. No more than 11 tables at once. I dont want to chase too many hands this year at the expense of quality, but i need to set a goal to make me put 30-40 hours a week in. This should be attainable as ive quite tourneys and we aint having 4 holidays this year

I can answer that...It's holdem manager and it works fine with Microgaming sites.

I've been way behind on catching up on my blog reading... and finally got to your series of posts on your evolution as a poker player and I wanted to say thanks! This was a fantastic read, not only insightful but very well composed too. I look forward to more of the same in the future.
